Kowloon Farm Lots Nos. 3 and 4.
The owners of the above have asked us to advise them in the matter of a proposition, on the part of the Government, to acquire a strip of their land for the purposes of a public road, or for some other purpose. Can you very kindly inform us what terms the Government are prepared to offer for the land in question, and for what purpose—if that is not inconvenient—the land is required; as it will depend to a great extent upon this latter particular whether it will be more advantageous to our clients to accept indemnification in part in the form of modification of their form of lease; or in an exchange of land; or wholly in money.
We are informed that a part of Kowloon Farm Lot No. 3 has recently been sold to the Hongkong Hotel Co.—an area of above 70,000 superficial feet—for $30,000. and we believe also that the land adjoining this was sold by the Government to the Steam Laundry Co. at a price exceeding 30 cents a foot.* May we ask you to be so good as to enquire into the reliability of these statements and to take them into consideration—if true—in forming your opinion as to what is a proper valuation to place upon the land which it is proposed to acquire.
